Ultraloq was kind enough to get in touch and team up with DIY Projects with Pete. This blog post will show the processes of installing a Ultraloq Ul3 Smart Door Lock and dive into the some features of this lock. This door lock is fingerprint programmable, pin programmable, and is a keyless entry system. In my opinion, this would be a great addition to any house, restaurant, business, and more. Let's take a look at the install!Â
The Ultraloq UL3 comes in a well-thought-out package that ships very easily to your home. Upon opening the box, there are both installation instructions and a user guide to help you out. They also include all of the necessary hardware, a screwdriver, and 3 AA batteries. The one thing you'll need is a power drill for drilling a hole into the door.
There is a handy UL3 Drill Template included in the box as well, follow this to know where to drill the hole for the lock to mount correctly. Inside of the box is a drill bit that we used for this install, meaning all you need is a power drill. Drill the hole through the door.
You'll then want to mark out the door latch and receiver hardware and then chisel away the width, height, and depth for it to mount correctly. If you've had a similar door lock on your door before and the hardware fits in place just fine, then you can skip this step.
Install the latch into the door and the receiver plates in the door jam. Make sure this is all in place very securely. Here, we're using the screwdriver that Ultraloq included in the box – works great!
Then slide the front of the Ultraloq UL3 smart door lock into place, feeding the wiring through the large hole and over the door latch. Once in place, attach the back plate with the screws and screwdriver provided.
After the backplate is in place, we'll attach the wiring to the receiver on the back piece of the UL3. Once the wiring is secure, mount the back piece into place.
Screw everything together very securely, this is the back piece being installed into place.
Add the included 3 AA batteries and then secure the back sliding cover into place and screw it in. You're almost done! The installation is honestly very simple for such an advanced, smart door lock system.
The last thing to to is simply attach the door handles into place, they should clip in fairly easily. If not, give a little persuasion with a wood or rubber mallet. You can then move on to programming your door to read your fingerprints, a specific pin or passcode, and more. You can add up to 95 different users!
Review Summary
This is a very slick system that is surprisingly easy to install. This smart lock is simple to use, it is very secure and will auto-lock within 5 seconds of being opened. This would be a great addition to an office, corporate building, restaurant, or home. One thing to note is that it always locks after the 5 seconds; there is not an option to keep it unlocked. This could be ideal for a wine cellar, back room at a store, office or an area that needs to constantly be locked. Another thing that comes in the box is a set of three keys, this is good in case you somehow were to forget the code, etc.
What comes in the box is nearly everything you need, except for a power drill. Overall, this is a very nice lock and it works very well.
